Paul was raised in North Queensland, before moving to Brisbane and graduating Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Queensland in 1998.
He was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2000, and has practised exclusively in the field of criminal and traffic law for well over a decade.
Paul has been a part of Bill Potts’ Gold Coast criminal law team since 2005. In that time, he has represented clients in all types of criminal and traffic law matters in the Magistrates Court, District Court, Supreme Court and Queensland Court of Appeal.
Paul has a particular interest and expertise in the area of police powers of search. Armed with that knowledge, he has secured acquittals (and has also succeeded in having prosecutions discontinued pre-trial) for people charged with serious drug and weapons offences.
In 2013, he presented a paper at the Queensland Law Society Gold Coast Symposium advising fellow practitioners how to challenge the lawfulness of “emergent” police searches.
Paul has successfully defended clients charged with murder and has experience across all areas of criminal and traffic law. His success rate in traffic related matters is unparelled.
