An army helicopter technician has been sentenced to jail for glassing a Gold Coast woman in the face at a Helensvale tavern after she rejected his advances on the dance floor.
Francisco Javier Flynn, 24, today pleaded guilty in the Southport District Court to wounding Nina Shand at the Options Tavern on August 1, 2009.
Judge Julie Dick SC sentenced him to 18 months in jail to be suspended after he served five months behind bars.
His lawyer Bill Potts told the judge his client had received treatment for alcohol and anger issues and was sorry for `shameful and cowardly’ actions.
Mr Potts said his client’s future in the army was now in question.
“He can’t serve his country while he is serving time,” he said.
